Day 1 - The Sites and Sounds of Phnom Penh

Bloggers:  Emily, Yuki and Anushka

Our first day in Cambodia has been exciting! After a fairly long trip from Singapore to Phnom Penh, we checked into our hotel and went to eat a lunch of authentic Khmer food on the riverfront. Afterwards, we visited the Royal Palace where we were able to see some magnificent architecture and gained a historical background on the Kingdom of Cambodia. Next, we took a river cruise down Mekong and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.  After the cruise, we stopped off at the Titanic restaurant for dinner where we enjoyed another authentic Khmer meal and were entertained by local musicians and dancers. We returned to our hotel via tuk tuk to finish off an action packed day in which we played the role of tourist and familiarized ourselves with the sites and sounds of Phnom Penh.

Tomorrow, we will shift gears and begin our humanitarian work by visiting the Tabitha foundation to complete a house building orientation session with Tabitha founder Janne Ritskes. We will spend the afternoon at the PIO school where our community service work will begin in earnest, as we teach the children some fun, new skills.  We will keep you posted on our progress. Tune in tomorrow to learn more.
